John 6:54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

6:55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.

When Jesus said this, it caused a quarrel among the audience. The Jews were like; how can this man tell us to feed on his flesh?

John 6:52 The Jews therefore quarrelled among themselves, saying, How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?

But Jesus insisted; if you feed on Me, you will live forever!

Now, Jesus wasn’t suggesting cannibalism or calling them vampires.

So how can you feed on Jesus? Definitely not with a fork and knife. We will walk you through how you can feed on Jesus and drink his blood in this post.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Who was in the beginning with God?

Jesus Christ was in the beginning with God and from this scripture we know that Jesus Christ is The Word. John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ bears witness to Jesus Christ The Word who is also The Light.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

This man came for a witness, to bear witness of THE LIGHT that all through him might believe.

HE WAS NOT THAT LIGHT, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

John 1:6-8

In the following verses, John told us The Word became flesh and came to dwell among us. John saw Jesus coming the next day and he pointed to Jesus that this is who I was talking about.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “THIS WAS HE OF WHOM I SAID, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me”

-John 1:14-15

The next day JOHN SAW JESUS coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’

-John 1:29-30

But how does all these revelations explain FEED ON ME?!

Remember Jesus Christ is the Word and The word became flesh? So when Jesus Christ said eat my flesh He meant feed on THE WORD OF GOD.

It also means rather than give yourself to your FLESH (used interchangeably with NATURE OF SIN in the Bible)“For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, nothing good dwells.” -Romans 7: 18) which we result to DEATH (the wages of sin is death -Romans 6:23), JESUS CHRIST IS SAYING FEED ON MY FLESH(WORD) so that you will have ETERNAL LIFE.

While the human flesh refers to sinful nature, the flesh of Jesus is The Spirit.

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life

Now that we have explained EAT MY FLESH, the next is DRINK MY BLOOD

“Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.” -John 6:53

In the Old Testament, when people sin, they have to sacrifice an animal (e.g. lamb) for their sins to be forgiven. The blood of the animals is significant to their sacrifice.

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” -Leviticus 17:11

And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. -Hebrews 9:22

"Then he shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering which is for the people, and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat. Leviticus 16:15

35 He shall remove all its fat, as the fat of the lamb is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offering. Then the priest shall burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire to the Lord. So the priest shall make atonement for his sin that he has committed, and it shall be forgiven him. -Leviticus 4:35

And he shall offer the second as a burnt offering according to the prescribed manner. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin which he has committed, and it shall be forgiven him. -Leviticus 5:10

But the animal blood was a temporary fix. They had to offer the sacrifice every time they sin and at different intervals just in case they are ignorant of a sin they commit.

Fast forward to the New Testament; Jesus Christ came to die for our sins.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! -John 1:29

who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, -1 Timothy 2:6

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. -2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus was crucified and His blood became the permanent fix for our sins.

who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.  Hebrews 7:27
