Old Testament I

Exodus 33:1 - 34:3

You can't know God too much, there's always more of God to know. The more you know Him the more you want to know Him. Moses asked God to show him His glory, he has been with God for a while and God has been talking to him, but Moses knew there is more to God than he knows.

Let’s not get too comfortable at a stage in our walk of faith with God that we refuse to Grow. There’s always more of God. God is gracious and merciful to reveal Himself to us if we yearn for more of Him.

“Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you…Matthew 7:7

Moses experienced the presence of God and he knew how beautiful it is and he knew that wasn’t all of it, Moses knew there’s more to God from the little experience he’s had.

It was by God’s grace and mercy that Moses was chosen to have this rare privilege. God told the children of Israelite to stay afar so that they will not be consumed but He allowed Moses to move closer a bit.

Moses knew how important that rare privilege is. When we know how important the presence of God is, we will not do things that will take us away from His presence. What takes us away from His presence?  SIN.

Old Testament 2

Psalms 83 & 84

Psalm 83 is a psalm of lament in which particular attention is given to the wicked. The curse that Asaph utters against the wicked puts this psalm in the category of the imprecatory psalms. When we read the strong words in this psalm, we need to keep in mind that the intent of the psalmist Asaph is to vindicate the glory of God.

The psalm’s structure is as follows:

  1. a call for God to speak out in judgment on the wicked (vv. 1–4);

  2. a recital of the acts of the wicked (vv. 5–8);

  3. a recital of God’s acts of judgment in the past (vv. 9–12);

  4. a call for God to judge the wicked (vv. 13–18).

Psalm 84 is one of the psalms of Zion. These psalms celebrate God’s presence in Jerusalem, the city where His temple was built. Today it is not necessary to go to Jerusalem to draw near to God, for God is near those who trust in His Son (Matt. 28:18–20). This psalm was composed by the sons of Korah (see Ps. 42; 44–49; 85; 87; 88).

There are six movements:

  1. the expression of the desire to be at home in Zion (vv. 1, 2);

  2. the blessings of being at home in Zion (vv. 3, 4);

  3. the blessings of those who make pilgrimages to Zion (vv. 5–7);

  4. a prayer for God’s attention in Zion (vv. 8, 9);

  5. the joy of being at home in Zion (vv. 10, 11); (6) the blessing of trusting in God (v. 12).

New Testament

Acts 20 :1-16

Look at the disciples' zeal to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. They used every mode of transportation available at their time. They used the sea, they travelled by land, they trekked long distances. The Disciples obeyed Jesus' instruction to preach the gospel. They didn’t just obey because they had to, they were zealous. They accepted their purpose. They also had a sense of urgency to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ just like Jesus did.

I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4 NKJV

Can we also have that kind of zeal today? Can we allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in our life. Can we allow the Holy Spirit to stir us to propagate the gospel even to the ends of the earth? Can we take preaching Christ as a matter of urgency?!

Quote

Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord.

-J. I. Packer

God's plan for enlarging His kingdom is so simple - one person telling another about the Savior. Yet we're busy and full of excuses. Just remember, someone's eternal destiny is at stake. The joy you'll have when you meet that person in heaven will far exceed any discomfort you felt in sharing the gospel.

-Charles Stanley
