Old Testament 1
Genesis 11:27 - 12:20

God commanded Abraham to leave His Father's house and his family and go to a land He will show him. Abraham obeyed. Lot went with him. Lot is part of his family, so technically, lot wasn't supposed to follow him (in the subsequent chapters, we'll find out why lot following him caused him troubles and why we should totally obey God when He gives us instruction)

Furthermore, God made a covenant with Abram that He will give his descendant the land of Canaan. (In the subsequent chapters, we'll understand this covenant and how it was delayed and fulfilled)

Furthermore, we read how God afflicted pharaoh with a plague because he took Sarai, Abram's wife.

This shows when you are of God, no one can take what belongs to you. God will continue to fight for you and return whatever was taken from you in multiple folds.

Old Testament 2
Job 15

Job friend continued to craftily try to make him hopeless.

They miss truthful words with their hopeless message so it's really hard to tell.

We should be careful of the company we keep and who we listen to.

Job's friends countered everything he says, in this scripture Eliphaz countered Job's illustration in yesterday's scripture about a tree cut off that still has hope of springing forth.

This is the same case with some friends today, or people who try to comfort those grieving. Rather than pray and keep silent, they always feel the need to challenge every statement the aggrieved person makes. This is what Job's friends did.

New Testament
Matthew 7:7-29

Jesus teaches here that we as children of God can ask God for what we want and He will answer us. We have access to Him through prayer and the scripture.

(7:13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it)

Also Jesus addresses the way to life.

Narrow is the wife. Jesus didn't promise there won't be a storm but He promised to be our peace. So yeah. The road to life is difficult but worth it. I mean would you rather chose an easy road to destruction ¿

Furthermore, Jesus told us how we can know false preachers/prophets.

How do you know false preachers? By their fruit.

What is fruit ?

Fruit of the spirit in Verse 20 ; Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Jesus concluded His teaching by saying it would be foolish to have listened to Him and not do what He teaches.

We shouldn't hear Jesus teaching or hear sermons and not do what He says.

That's one way of bearing good fruits. When we do what Jesus tells us too. When we do God's will.

(7:24 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock)

Lastly, Jesus taught with authority. As Christians we have that authority in Christ too. When we preach we should preach with authority.

(Verse 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes).
